How far in advance should I book my performance or event?
We recommend booking 6 months to 1 year in advance of your performance or event date to ensure availability of desired dates.
How long does the contracting process take?
From initial inquiry to final contract draft it can take anywhere from a week to a month to complete the contracting process. Clients should be prepared to discuss their production schedule timeline and technical equipment needs in detail prior to contract draft completion.
Do you offer a discount for Non-Profit Organizations?
Basic rental fees are based on whether it is an Art Rental/Performance, Private Corporate Party/Conference, or Wedding. We do offer subsidized pricing for Non-Profit Organizations.
What is the maximum capacity the theater can accommodate for my performance/event?
Maximum seating capacity in the theater depends on the amount of usable stage space you need for your performance or event. A general guide to capacity is as follows:
- Dance Performances: 234-320
- Staged Plays/Musicals: 234-420
- Concerts, Conferences, Lectures: 234-480
- Private Receptions/Weddings: 130-150
Can I use my own ticketing platform for ticket sales of my event/performance?
The New Hazlett Theater has exclusive rights over the box office and ticket sales of all events and performances in the theater, so all tickets must be purchased from the New Hazlett via the website or over the phone.
Can I choose the ticket price for my event/performance?
Clients can choose the base ticket price for their event/performance, however the New Hazlett does add on a $4 facility fee plus applicable credit card processing fees and sales tax per ticket.
Can I provide my own front of house staff and technicians for my performance/event?
Only NHT employees and volunteers may serve as Front of House Staff, though we do encourage clients to provide team members to greet and interact with patrons in the lobby. FOH staff provided by NHT include: A House Manager, Facility Attendant, Box Office Attendant, and Bartender.
First time clients are required to use NHT technicians for their performance or event, though clients should provide their own stage management team/point of contact for back of house needs. Returning clients may use their own technicians if approved by the NHT Production Manager. All NHT FOH Staff and Technicians are billed at an hourly rate.
Is there parking available at the Theater?
Thanks to a generous partnership with the Allegheny Health Network, NHT patrons have free access to a garage right in front of the theater for evening and weekend matinees (for Sunday matinees the parking garage is available after 2pm.) Street parking is also available at no cost after 6pm, Monday-Saturday and all day on Sundays.
What accessible accommodations does the theater offer?
The New Hazlett has 1 designated parking spot for patrons with accessibility needs, as well as an ADA accessible ramp with access from the designated handicap parking space. Other accessible accommodations include 14 accessible seats at the front of the center seating section, an stage-level dressing room/greenroom in the back of house. Can I sell food and drinks at my event/performance?
The New Hazlett Theater does provide concession and bar services for performances and events. Only concessions purchased by NHT are for sale during performances, and only NHT RAMP certified and trained employees are permitted in the bar area.
Outside catering is only permitted for private reception-style/non-ticketed events like Corporate Parties or Weddings. A $250 reception/cleaning fee is required for receptions with catered food, and catering services must be provided by a licensed, commercial caterer/kitchen. The selling or serving of outside catered food is not permitted for public/ticketed events.
Can I sell merchandise at my performance/event?
Merchandise sales related to the use of the theater by the client are permitted in the lobby with prior approval from NHT. All labor for set-up, sale and clean-up shall be the direct responsibility of the client. NHT reserves the right share in a percentage of merchandise sales performed by the client, subject to a fee equaling 10% of all sales obtained.
