Mercy Train

June 19 – 21, 2015

On a train in Texas (circa 1925) sisters Francie and Sissy awaken to discover their mother has disappeared. A street rat, Mule, declares they are on an orphan train, bound for a new life, but the sisters know Momma wouldn’t leave them. In present day NYC, Elise and Frankie skip school to take a subway to Coney Island, but they encounter an old woman who wants to tag along and is willing to share the contents of her purse if that will get her there. This family friendly opera propels two trains through a little known piece of American history to a present that reveals the secrets from the past.

Music by Douglas Levine
Libretto by Julie Tosh
